ZIP and county data cannot predict your home

Historical radon test data for a ZIP code or county cannot predict the radon level in an individual home. Testing the individual property is the only way to know its radon level. Neighbouring homes routinely produce very different results, because the result depends on that building's foundation, construction and operation.

No live data connection on this site

We do not currently hold a synchronized copy of the Pennsylvania DEP radon dataset, so there is no ZIP-code search on this page and no figures are displayed. Publishing sample or illustrative numbers would misrepresent official data, so we publish none. Use the official source below for current figures.

Field availability varies with the published dataset. Only fields actually present in the official data should ever be displayed as data.

Why reported data is a biased sample

Reported test data reflects where testing happened, not where radon is. Testing volume rises with real-estate activity, local awareness and the presence of active testing professionals. An area with few reported tests is not a low-radon area — it is an under-tested one.

Areas with a high share of elevated results may also reflect a testing population skewed toward transactions and follow-up measurements. That is a reason to read the data as context, not as a forecast.

Reasonable uses of the data

  • Understanding how much radon testing has been reported in a region.
  • Supporting a public-awareness or policy discussion.
  • Giving a homeowner context for why testing is routinely recommended.
  • Comparing testing activity over time where the dataset supports it.

And one unreasonable use: deciding not to test because an area's numbers looked low.
